The Look
If you’ve seen the James Bond flick Casino Royale, you’ve caught a glimpse of this breezy Bahamian resort on Paradise Island’s northern shore. From the whitewashed front porch and views of the Caribbean Sea, to the fresh lemonade welcome drinks and check-in performed in the cozy library, this colonial-style resort makes an excellent first impression, and continues to impress with features like an adults-only pool and attentive service in the form of a private butler.

Bed & Bath
Rooms and Suites have a colonial, island-preppy look, with dark wood floors, white linens and jaunty striped rugs and cushions. Flat-screen TVs, iPod docks and WiFi help keep you connected no matter which room you pick, though spacious suites are worth the splurge for the private terraces overlooking the gardens, beach and Caribbean Sea. Afternoons see chilled champagne and chocolate-dipped strawberries delivered to all guests.

Beyond
One&Only offers a kids program and a family pool, but the resort is also suited to romantic getaways or grown-up gangs of vacationers who will enjoy the championship golf course and the award-winning spa. Each of the Balinese-style treatment suites has its own waterfall shower, daybed and hot tub in a private garden. Just above Ocean Club’s never-crowded stretch of Cabbage Beach is a large wooden deck — ideal for yoga or the seasonal Physique57 fitness retreats. On the food front, Jean-Georges Vongerichten’s Dune restaurant serves elegant French-Asian dishes like roasted Nassau grouper in a Christian Liaigre-designed dining room, while the historic Courtyard Terrace offers a romantic, candlelit setting for Mediterranean-influenced dinner fare. For more casual dining, snag a seat at the Clubhouse overlooking the 9th and 18th holes of the golf course or hit the poolside café.

In the Area
One&Only provides complimentary transportation to sister property Atlantis, a megaresort with a casino that offers blackjack, roulette, Caribbean stud poker, baccarat, craps and hundreds of slot machines 24 hours a day. There’s also an extensive list of dining options here, including famous chains such as Nobu, Mesa Grill, Carmine’s, Virgil’s BBQ and Ben & Jerry’s. Families can brush up on marine science with the Atlantis Aquarist for the Day program — hand-feed stingrays and go behind the scenes of the resort’s huge marine habitats. Golf fans will want to take a turn on the championship Ocean Club Golf Course, where players get jaw-dropping Paradise Island views from every hole.
